About the Farm

Middleton’s Cedar Hill farm is a farm that's full of history, with the earliest recordation of Middleton ownership going back to 1600’s. In 1989, US Secretary of Agriculture recognized family farms that had been in existence since the ratification of the Constitution. It was recognized as a bicentennial farm by the United States Department of Agriculture. The current owner, Thomas “Mac” Middleton, and his late wife Joanie, purchased the farm in 1981 from his parents. During this time, the agricultural base in Southern Maryland was primarily tobacco.

Over the years the farm has transitioned from tobacco to an alternative agriculture operations. The main stay for the farm currently consistent of quality Orchard grass hay. In addition we also maintain a 25 head count of breeding cows. The farm has many additional buildings including a farm store, which was built by the family to be used in the agri-tourism business. The farm store was the center of several events such as weddings, birthday parties, pumpkin patches, and a retail Christmas tree shop.

The farm is approximately 2 hours from Richmond, an hour from Baltimore and 45 minutes south of Washington, D.C. During your stay, you will see the lush views and expansive hay fields and our many farm animals. All of the farm buildings have been restored which adds to the wonderfully peaceful ambiance of the farm.
